We’re two sisters that live across the country from each other and think it’s really hard to meet new friends - like really good friends, not acquaintances. I lived in Florida and although the people were friendly and I was very active socially, and I did make friends, it was very transitory.
By the time we are adults and difficulties can appear even more numerous as the pressures of work and maintaining a roof over our heads mean yet further restrains upon us.
And so, you say things you think might be helpful — but are actually hurtful — without asking what we might need or want.
Congrats on meeting society’s expectations of getting married by the accepted “deadline” (which differs wildly by region, religion and class, by the way).
I know you love your spouse and I don’t need to see seven consecutive days of photos to prove it.
I know you want to involve me in your lives, to invite me to dinner parties and celebrate those big life moments with you. For a start, if you want me to be your ‘friend’ on social media, we need to stop with all the OTT statuses.
